| In this study, the RAPD technique was used to analyze the genetic structure of populations of the fish Astyanax altiparanae (Characidae, Tetragonopterinae) living in the lower, middle and upper Paranapanema River, Brazil. The aim was to assess this structure regarding fish handling and conservation programs. The genetic variability (P) was found to be 42.64%, 75% and 75% in the low, middle and upper reaches, respectively. The dendrogram of genetic similarity, obtained by comparative analysis of the sets of samples from the three sites, showed the formation of three clusters. | The fish assemblage in a stretch of Tibagi river was studied during the period of one year, throught monthly sampling. It was observed that four fish species (Schizodon intermedius Garavello & Britski, 1990, Acestrorhynchus lacustris Reinhardt, 1874, Pimelodus maculatus Lacépède, 1803 and Steindachnerina insculpta Fernandez-Yepez, 1948) were very frequent and they represent all the main trophic groups. | O objetivo desse trabalho foi a determinação da estrutura populacional da espécie. Foram escolhidos quatro locais de amostragem com características ambientais distintas na bacia do rio Tibagi. As amostragens foram realizadas mensalmente no período de janeiro de 1997 a fevereiro de 1998. Um total de 1553 indivíduos foram capturados, apresentando constância em todos os trechos, com as maiores abundâncias nos trechos do rio Congonhas (76 %). Variações ocorreram entre os trechos por fase de desenvolvimento e classes de comprimento e na distribuição espacial, demonstrando que a espécie apresenta estrutura populacional diferenciada. | Some aspects of the reproductive cycle of female "lambari", Astyanax scabripinnis paranae (Eigenmann, 1927) were studied. The specimens were collected in intervals of fifteen days, from September 1979, until November 1980, in the Marrecas creek (Irerê and Paiquerê districts), Londrina, Paraná, Brazil. The maturity scale was characterized in five stages: immature, maturation, spawning, spent, and resting, which was established by the gonad-somatic relation and the ovary morphology and microscopic aspects. | This work consists of age, growth, and circuli formation period determination and the relation of reproduction, temperature, and pluviosity on the growth of S. intermedius Garavello & Britski, 1990. The growth curve was adjusted by the Bertalanfy's expression and the relationship between weight and size was made by the minimum square method to determine the conditioning factor. Gonadossomatic index (IGS) was used to study the reproduction. The assintotic values for length were 33,94 cm and 44,81 cm for males and females, respectively. | ABSTRACT Non-native species are a major driver of biodiversity loss. Aquaculture activities play a key role in introductions, including the escape of fishes from fish farm facilities. Here, the impact of flooding due to El Niño rains in 2015/2016 in the Lower and Middle Paranapanema River basin, southern Brazil, was investigated by evaluating fish escapes from 12 fish farms. The flooding resulted in the escape of approximately 1.14 million fishes into the river, encompassing 21 species and three hybrids. Non-native species were the most abundant escapees, especially Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Coptodon rendalli (Boulenger, 1897) (96% of all fish). | The aim of this study, utilizing RAPD techniques, was to determine the genetic variability of Salminus brasiliensis groups collected at passage ladders of the hydroelectric plants (HEP) Canoas I and Canoas II - Paranapanema River (Brazil), as well as to estimate the population structure through different parameters of genetic diversity. The data obtained allowed us to conclude that S. brasiliensis of the Canoas Complex has a moderate index of genetic variability ( > 42.00%) when compared to that of other migratory fish species. | Na bacia do rio Tibagi, trechos dos rios Fortaleza, Iapó e Tibagi foram amostrados mensalmente, de maio de 2001 a abril de 2002, com tarrafas e redes de espera de diferentes malhagens. Foram capturados indivíduos de quatro espécies de Astyanax. Para conhecer como essas espécies utilizam o hábitat desses rios, foi calculada a constância, e as freqüências em número de exemplares foram comparadas pela análise de similaridade Bray-Curtis.
